first i had to find the right color! you would think this was easy... WRONG! after scouring the internet, for a couple of weeks, i found cascade yarns 220 superwash wool color number 1976 sunshine heather. i wanted to see it in person before buying it, since it wasn't cheap. so, i had to find a lys that had it. luckly, loops in utica square in tulsa, ok had it in stock. yea! i went and petted it, and eyed the color, and pronounced it the winner. it was even on sale! more yea!
next was the size and shape of the wedge of cheese. i couldn't find any patterns, of course. it's a good thing i can imagine something in my head and make it come out the end of the crochet hook, or i'd be in trouble. but, i didn't want to make pieces and stitch them together, i wanted to make it all in one go. i got the top and sides done, but then how to close it up? i put it down for awhile, and thought about it. finally it came to me, and i finished it up! here it is... for your enjoyment and inspiration...
THE GREEN BAY PACKERS CHEESEHEAD FANCY HAT
it's attached to the hat in 2 places with a simple whip stitch. the hat yarn is red heart, the cheese is wool. i needed to be able to seperate them easily if it needs a wash. i stuffed the cheese with the acrylic fiberfil from walmart.
i can't wait to wear it to work on the next hat friday! i work at an elementary school, the first friday of the month is popcorn and hat day. the pta type organization (T.A.P.S. - Teachers And Parents of Sapulpa) pop popcorn in our popcorn machine (movie theater size) and everyone gets a small bag and gets to wear a hat. it's great fun! it's also school/team spirit day on friday's, so i'll wear my Green Bay Packers sweatshirt and the hat together.
any questions, post 'em, and i'll try to answer 'em!
